Atlanta Bread

Have you ever eaten at Atlanta Bread Company? There's one where I live. When I used to eat meat I loved it. Their chicken and tuna salad sandwiches were the bomb. I guess they still are. I don't know for sure. Suffice it to say I had nothing but good things to say about the place. It's a little pricey but that's to be expected from a chain.

I had the strangest ordeal there after I went vegetarian. I wanted the Italian Vegetarian Panini. But I did not want it on foccacia bread and I wanted it with Swiss instead of provolone. I like that they have 3 different veggie sandwiches on their menu, but dislike that all utilize provolone. Which is sadly not a very veggie friendly cheese. 99% of provolone contain animal byproducts. Foccacia bread usually contains eggs. So I wanted no part of either of those ingredients.

Wow, did that royally throw them into a tizzy. I had to fight with them to get them to make the sandwich the way I wanted it. On rye bread with Swiss cheese. And even after they agreed to make it my way, they  made it a point to tell me they would only make it this way the one time and never again. Almost like an ultimatum. Eat it our way or else.  Here I thought their whole business model was based on giving people the sandwich that they wanted. Silly me and my customer service delusions.

I imagine if I had wanted to substitute pretzels for my potato chips the whole place would've imploded. But luckily for them I like potato chips.

Maybe I'm crazy, but when you charge so much for something so simple as a sandwich you really ought to roll with the punches when the customer wants to alter it. And when you offer vegetarian sandwiches you should really be offering them with truly vegetarian cheeses.

They always throw a fit about changing paninis because they pre make them (not pre-cook, but have very thing ready to go, since if they weren't ready, making them and cooking them would take a while). They happily change any normal sandwich though!

They didn't say that was why they didn't want to change it. Interesting to know.
